FIELD RESEARCH

Led by Nate Dau PhD, the team and our partners. We are conducting industry leading field research studies to understand the risks athletes are experiencing in different sports and competition levels.

Our mission is to make the most effective protective products athletes want to wear. Understanding what risks athletes face, how effective products are, and the conditions that create the most risk for athletes enables SYZMIK to continue to improve our products. This research also enables us to educate parents, coaches and leagues in an effort to make the sports safer for all participants, not just SYZMIK athletes.

NAIA FIELD STUDIES

SIZMIK and SaintMary's Logo

University of Saint Mary has provided SYZMIK researchers with access to their team video. SYZMIK researchers are reviewing the video to quantify head impacts in NAIA Flag Football using methods similar to those used in NFL research. Early results indicate a head impact occurs on 7.5% of NAIA Flag Football plays.

IFAF FIELD STUDIES

IFAF has provided SYZMIK researchers with access to their game video. SYZMIK researchers are reviewing the video to quantify head impacts in Professional Flag Football using methods similar to those used in NFL research. This research will evaluate head impact exposure between male and female professional athletes.

NOCSAE GRANT AWARD

The National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) has funded the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to conduct a pilot study to evaluate the effectiveness of Flag Football headgear. Athletes will wear SYZMIK headgear while participating in a Flag Football Life tournament. Head impacts will be recorded using instrumented mouthguards.  Head impact measurements will be compared between players wearing SYZMIK headgear and no headgear.
